Key Stage 2 Residential - Dartmoor Activity Centre - Day 2

19th June 2025

After a good night’s sleep, the children woke up refreshed and full of energy, ready to take on the second day of their adventure. They tucked into a delicious breakfast to fuel up for the exciting activities ahead, with the sun shining down and spirits high.

The morning began with a fascinating exploration of a historic shelter once used during granite mining. The children were captivated by the ingenuity and resilience of the miners who once worked there, sparking lots of curiosity and conversation.

Later on, during a nature walk, the children discovered an array of wildlife, including frogs, leeches, tadpoles, dragonflies, and newts. Each new sighting brought excitement and awe, and the group learned so much about the natural world around them.

Lunchtime was spent beside a peaceful river, where the children enjoyed a well-earned break before heading off to explore a nearby medieval village. With ancient protections reminiscent of Stonehenge, the village added a magical touch to the day’s adventures – made even better by the glorious weather across Dartmoor.

In the afternoon, the children tackled rock scrambling across rugged terrain, taking on all sorts of challenges with enthusiasm and determination. Over the past two days, the theme of the trip had been about discovering their limits—and then going beyond them. Every single child stepped up, supported their friends, and achieved more than they ever thought possible. We couldn’t be prouder.

As the sun began to set, the children sat down to a well-deserved evening meal together. There was plenty of laughter around the tables, full tummies, and tired but happy faces all round. It was the perfect end to another unforgettable day.
