Cave paintings

This term in art, we have been studying cave paintings and understanding what their purpose was. This week we have focussed on the colours used for cave art. We discovered that earthy colours, such as; orange, yellow, red and brown often featured in cave art. We found out this was due to our ancestors using material that were available at the time.

As our focus was on the colours, the children had the task of creating and mixing colours to replicate the colours used by our ancestors. We explored colour theory and enjoyed experimenting by mixing together different shades.

Next week, we will look to replicate a cave painting using these colours as a background.
