Wild Tribe – Outdoor Learning at Its Best

Wild Tribe is an exciting outdoor learning programme that brings the curriculum to life beyond the classroom. Rooted in nature, it promotes physical activity, emotional wellbeing, and a deeper connection with the environment. Children learn to manage risks, collaborate through team challenges, and build self-esteem while gaining practical skills like fire lighting, shelter building, and using tools safely.

Learning outdoors inspires creativity, especially in writing, and helps pupils grow in confidence through hands-on experiences. Wild Tribe supports all areas of the curriculum and can be tailored to specific topics or learning goals.

Wild Tribe at Coads Green

Wild Tribe at Coads Green Primary School offers children rich, hands-on learning experiences in nature that build crucial life skills and deepen their connection to the environment. Rooted in the school’s capabilities curriculum, sessions focus on areas like communication, teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving.

Each week, children enjoy a variety of creative and practical outdoor activities. These include building obstacle courses to develop clear communication, crafting storybook characters from natural materials, and cooking over open fires- making chocolate cake in oranges or enjoying mulled squash and marshmallows. They’ve also learned how to safely make fires, plant trees, and explore historical topics like the Great Fire of London in an immersive setting.

The sessions are inclusive, with mixed-age groups collaborating to build dens, sculpt with clay, grow and cook their own food, and create crafts like flags and leaf prints. This encourages leadership in older pupils and provides younger children with positive role models.

Through Wild Tribe, children aren’t just learning about the world- they’re learning how to work together in it. The program supports physical, social, and emotional development while encouraging environmental stewardship and a love of the outdoors. Children return from these sessions more confident, connected, and curious- qualities that support their success both inside and outside the classroom.
